About Us
Our History
We are a married couple with an empty nest since our adult kids have moved away to different cities to pursue their careers. One of them attended Algonquin College for three years.
We have no pets and will not permit any pets on the property. We have allergies and we wish to maintain the house free from pet hairs and other items. There have never been pets in the house. However, this house is not suitable for the hypo-allergenic, we are not that sensitive.
This house would not be suitable for a student that requires the use of a wheelchair, there are up to four level changes in the house and four of the rooms are upstairs. The downstairs room still requires two level changes, ignoring the front steps.
This house has been used by a wonderful Christian family as a great place to board and later on to rent rooms. Both of us have boarded in this house before we were married, my wife lived in this house for three years and I lived in it for about 6 months. I even did a little work on the construction of the addition.
The house was originally built around 1960, and around 1975 an addition was added on to increase the size of the house.
We have remained friends and in contact with this family up to this day. When the widowed owner became to frail to live on her own in this house (and moved to live with other family members), we purchased the house. We intended to carry on providing rooms for students, however, we are also doing this as a business to provide some income diversity away from the high-tech field.
We moved in and became renovators. We have completed the renovations and have re-done all of the student rooms, the kitchen, upstairs bathroom and changed the heating system.
The house had a wonderful garden, which was one of the great pleasures of the previous owner's late husband and we are struggling to keep the garden in some sort of order. We do not posses a green thumb. (A horticultural program student who is interested in helping in the garden could be offered a discount in exchange for some work in the garden.)
My principle profession is an Electronics Design Engineer however, I have had a lot of experience building and repairing homes.
Among my wife's passions is a clean and tidy house. She likes to organize!
Why do we not provide the address or full names on our web site?
We do not wish to be surprised by students wishing to see the house when we are in our grubby clothes, or entertaining guests for supper, etc. We also do not want existing tenants to have to handle prospective renters when we are not home. Therefore, we wish that everyone make an appointment by e-mail or telephone. Also, I have taken measures to reduce spam due to the web site.
The Name?
We picked a domain name that reflects what we do and our proximity to Algonquin College. We are not associated with any registered company or the College. No active company has a similar domain registered in any top level domain.
